Desi Dukaan was created to bring the authentic flavors of India—and a touch of the world—right into the heart of  Bloomfield. Our journey started over two decades ago when I moved from Mumbai to the U.S. in 1998. After settling in Glen Ridge with my wife, Ruchi, and our daughters, Maya and Syna, we quickly grew to love this vibrant, welcoming community. But we noticed something missing: a local place where you could easily find the essential ingredients and flavors that make Indian cooking so special.

That idea blossomed into Desi Dukaan—“Desi” meaning “from my homeland,” and “Dukaan” meaning “local shop.” We offer a carefully curated selection of authentic Indian groceries and pantry staples, from fragrant basmati rice and bold masala spices to creamy yogurt and rich, flavorful lassis. Our shelves also feature a wide variety of beloved Indian sweets, like gulab jamun and barfi, alongside a handpicked range of European snacks that offer a delightful mix of tradition and surprise.
